Urban hospitals are built like patchwork.
Trapped as they are by tar on all sides
they are forced to grow skyward, to reach bridges across avenues,
to fill gaps between pre-war buildings of brick
with fillings of glass, like
filling gaps in your teeth
or wounds in your ribs,
